If a student has been unable to pass a 10th or 12th std. examination and is still looking for a better alternative then NIOS offers an opportunity. Its full form is National Institute of Open Schooling and it was established in 1989 to facilitate those students who were unable to pursue regular education due to various compulsions. It was earlier known as national open school.
Apart from school level educational courses NIOS also offers Vocational courses. These are customized courses suitable to various needs which make it easier to choose a course. A language course is compulsory along with these courses there is no upper age limit for admission in NIOS.
• Open basic education
• Secondary certificate course
• Senior secondary certificate course
• Vocational Education
For admission in secondary course the student should have cleared 8th std. exam. The candidates should have passed out 10th Std. for admission in a senior secondary course. Admission to a Vocational course can be sought on the basis of a secondary or senior secondary pass certificate.
