CAT 2017: All about Eligibility Criteria, Important dates, Syllabus, Exam Pattern

CAT 2017: The official notification for Common Admission Test or CAT 2017 has been released by IIM Lucknow. The exam conducting body i.e. Indian Institutes of Managements (IIM) Lucknow will conduct the exam on 26th November 2017 in two sessions. The exam duration will be of 3 hours.

The notification was released in 29th July 2017 and the application process will begin from August 9 and will end on September 20.

Eligibility Criteria for CAT 2017

There is not much change introduced in the eligibility criteria for appearing in the CAT 2017 exam. The snapshots of the eligibility criteria set by the IIMs to appear in CAT 2017 are mentioned as under:

  1. The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD)/Differently Abled (DA) category) awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
  2. The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree.
  3. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor’s degree.
  4. Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.
  5. IIMs may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process, the details of which are provided at the website.
  6. Prospective candidates must maintain a valid and unique email account and a phone number throughout the selection process.

Structure and Pattern of CAT 2017

Every year, CAT brings some additional changes in its syllabus to test the aptitude of its aspirants. But this year, IIM Lucknow has not introduced any changes in the exam pattern of CAT Exam. The computer based test will be sub-divided into 3 sections, as it was in the previous year.

  1. The first section is created to test the Verbal Ability and Reading comprehension skills of the aspirants.
  2. The second section pertains to Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and
  3. The third and final section tests the Logical Reasoning skills of the students.

The MBA entrance examination tests the skills of the students in 180 minutes and holds 100 questions. We hope that the examination will be provided to the candidates in the given below format.

The CAT Exam will be conducted on 26th November 2017, and on the same date, another premier institute IIFT has also scheduled the exam for the MBA Aspirants in the morning slot i.e. from 10AM to 12Noon. IIFT conducts the MBA Entrance exam to grant admission in their 2-year full time MBA (International Business) course. Whereas, CAT Scores are a gateway to get admission in institutes such as all the top 20 IIMs along with FMS, MDI, IMI, NITIE, SPJIMR, IMT, JBIMS, BIMTECH, TAPMI, XIMB, Great Lakes among others.
