After the official announcement of scrapping Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) scheme for Class IX and X from academic session 2017-18, CBSE has decided to implement uniform system of assessment, examination and report card for Class VI-IX from the same year.
CBSE has decided to implement the above said changes in order to bring the uniformity in the system of assessment and examination for classes IX and X in all the CBSE affiliated schools across the country. Also the similar pattern followed for classes VI-VIII will help in building the confidence in the students to start preparing for class X board examination when they join the upper primary stage in class VI.
The circular issued by the Board states that, “Keeping in view the provisions of Right to Education Act, 2009, the scheme for classes VI-VIII has been designed on Term Assessment basis with gradual increase in the learning assessment as the students move forward. This would prepare the students to cover the whole syllabus of the academic year and face the challenge of class X Board examination, and would thus, ensure the quality of education.”
Till now, the CBSE affiliated schools used to follow various systems of assessment and examination for classes VI to IX and issue different types of report cards to their students. Due to such inconsistent system, the students of classes VI to IX has to face several problems whenever they migrate to another school. Thus, the new uniform pattern followed for classes VI-VIII will not only ensure the easy migration of students within the family of CBSE affiliated schools but also ease their difficulties while seeking admission in new schools.
With this new system of uniformity coming in effect from new academic session 2017-2018, as the assessment structure and exam pattern for Class 9 will be similar to that of Class 10, the report card issued for Class 9 will also be same as that of Class 10.
