Department of Biotechnology (DBT) (coordinated by National Centre for Cell Science, Pune {NCCS,Pune}) under Ministry of Science &  Technology, Government of India issued notification inviting online applications for Biotechnology Eligibility Test- 2014 (BET-2014) for award of ‘DBT-Junior Research Fellowship’ (DBT-JRF) for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and Applied Biology to those qualifying the BET-2014. Interested candidates can apply online for BET 2014 through NCCS website www.nccs.sifyitest.com/BET2014 till 21 March 2014.

Program Details

Exam: Biotechnology Eligibility Test- 2014 (BET-2014)

Fellowship: DBT-Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF)

Subjects / Areas:

i. Biotechnology

ii. Applied Biology.

Period of fellowship: initially for a period of 3 years; extendable for 2 more years;

The performance of JRF will be assessed by the end of 2 year and he/she will be upgraded to SRF.

Fellowship amount:

For JRF: Rs. 16000 per month + HRA + research contingency of Rs. 30000 per year.

For SRF: Rs. 18000 per month + HRA + research contingency of Rs. 30000 per year.

Other details about the Fellowship: Candidates qualifying the BET 2014 exam will be awarded JRFs under two categories: Category I & Category II (as per merit).

While the top 275 candidates in BET 2014 will be eligible for Category I fellowship -- tenable in any University/Institute in India where the students can register for Ph.D. -- the next 100 candidates will be classified as Category II students and will be eligible to join any DBT sponsored Project and avail fellowship equivalent to NET/GATE qualifications as per DST Guidelines, subject to selection through institutional selection process. The Fellowship will be co-terminus with the duration of project and institutional rules will be applicable.

NOTE: DBT-BET entitles a candidate (Category I) for Fellowship subject to him/her getting a Ph.D. registration with a university or Institute within 2 years of qualifying the exam.

Selection in Category II does not entitle student for any fellowship from DBT-JRF program.

Biotechnology Eligibility Test details: Selection of candidates for award of fellowship will be done on the basis of their performance in the online admission test -- Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET).

The BET is scheduled to be conducted on 20 April 2014 from 1000 hours in twelve cities, namely, New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Patna, Trivandrum & Ahmedabad.

Eligibility Conditions: Candidates can appear for BET examination only thrice -- within the prescribed age limit – first time in the year they pass their qualifying degree exam and in the two subsequent years. (Candidates who have passed their qualifying degree exam after 1 January 2012 or will appear for their qualifying degree exam this year (till August 2014) are eligible to apply for BET 2014 exam.

Age limit: below 28 years (as on 28 February 2014)

Educational Qualifications:  M.Sc./ M.Tech./ M.V.Sc. Degree with Biotechnology specialization such as Agricultural, Animal/ Veterinary, Medical, Marine, Industrial, Environmental, Pharmaceutical, Food, Bio-resources Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Bio-sciences and Biotechnology, Bioinformatics OR M.Sc.  Molecular & Human Genetics, / Neuroscience OR B. Tech. / BE in Biotechnology

Application fees: Non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500 is to be paid either online or offline.

SC/ ST/ PH category candidates are exempted from payment of application fees.
