Engineering Graduate from VIT University Secures 19th Rank in Civil Services

Jun 6, 2017 16:43 IST

Sahil Gupta represents those youth in the country who refuse to be bogged down. In his third attempt, this 25-year-old youth from Haryana has made his home State, his family of a banker, a homemaker and an engineering graduate as sister and also his alma mater in Tamil Nadu very proud.

Mr. Gupta has achieved the all-India 19th ranking in the civil services examinations, results of which were released recently. A native of Jhajjar district in Haryana, Mr. Gupta, a B.Tech graduate from VIT University, earlier was selected for the interview after the main examinations. The results were a tad disappointing but it did not stop him.

“My parents fully supported me. They said they were prepared to go to any length to support in my preparation for civil services,” he says. His father Sushil Kumar is in the banking sector and mother Promila is a homemaker. His sister is also an engineering graduate from Jaipur. He then moved to New Delhi, not just the country’s capital, but also the capital for civil service aspirants from all over the country.

“It was during my third year that I started to think about what next after college. I was also wondering if I should pursue management. I firmed up my belief in civil services in the fourth year,” he said. After appearing in the competitive examinations organised by Union Public Services Commission (UPSC), his determination only grew stronger. And today, he has tasted success in his third attempt. “Had I not made it, I would have gone for the fourth attempt,” says the youth – a pointer to his determination to break into the pre-eminent service organisation.

Role of VIT:

Mr. Gupta is also proud to place on record, the contribution of VIT in preparing for the most coveted and prestigious examinations in India. “I started preparing even before completing my engineering. The university library is well equipped and has all resources for people preparing for competitive examinations and not just their regular engineering courses,” he says.

Studying in VIT itself was a pleasure as it offered a pan-India experience, enabling him to meet people from all over India and to get a peek into the culture and lifestyle of youth from all over the country.
