IIM-Ahmedabad welcomes 80% visually impaired Gujarat girl, Prachi Sukhwani (aged 21) to its PGP batch of 2017-19. She was diagnosed with macular dystrophy while she was studying in the third standard. Macular dystrophy, also known as retinal degradation made Prachi loose 80 per cent of her vision over the years.
Prachi has scored 98.55 percentile in CAT 2016 and has finally made it to IIM-A. "My short term goal is to join a company, preferably a multinational. Once I get some experience, I will have my own start-up. But my long-term goal is to open an NGO for the blind," Prachi said in her statement.
She also received calls for other top management institutes namely Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management-Bengaluru, Indian Institute of Management-Kolkata.
Suresh Sukhwani, Prachi's father runs a garment business while her mother Kanchan is an LIC agent. Prachi's elder sister Nishita is pursuing MBA from a Mumbai-based private college. She as completed her Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree and is also basking in the glow of congratulatory notes from friends, family and well-wishers.
