The education sector, especially the higher education sector of the country is undergoing massive transformation. This has made a link between industry and academia a pivotal aspect of higher education, wherein the education institutes have to train students keeping in mind the skills being demanded by the industry. Therefore, it is very important for any institution to keep updating its syllabus according to latest industry requirements because that is where graduates will finally themselves. The education they get during their years in college must help in shaping them as a professional. It is for this reason that it is important for a college to have close connections with the industry so that it receives regular feedback.

In order to train students in sync with what is being demanding in the job market and industry, GLA University in Mathura has undertaken several steps in the direction of academia-industry interface. It takes regular inputs from the industry so that there are no gaps in academic curricula vis-à-vis industry requirements. The capabilities of the intellectual forces at GLA University have established a compatibility match with the requirements of the industry.

Over the years, GLA University has transformed into a higher education institute of technical and managerial excellence by sourcing partners from various industries. GLA now boasts of having more than 10 industrial consultancy projects, sourced from Applied Electro Magnetic Pvt. Ltd., Noida, B.K. Consimpex Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, ACME Technologies, Noida.

In order to set up research and Incubation centres, GLA University has endeavoured to undertake Memorandum of Understanding with the premier seats of technical and professional learning and excellence such as IITs and IIMs.

GLA University takes very seriously the implications of current economic crisis, issues related to development programmes and strategies pertaining to future. It is to discuss these issues, that the university organised a meeting of industrial counsellors at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The industry experts unanimously appreciated the efforts of GLA for the overall development of the students through various industrial visits, guest lectures, seminars, etc.

GLA also started an Industry Relevant Input Championship Programme for the benefit of faculty-members and students. It aims to inculcate both technical and managerial aspect-related inputs which are deemed necessary and relevant to industry. In this regard, Mr. Ashok Mehra, Global Head (Deliver and Change) of TCS acquainted the faculty-members as well as the students about Business Transformation and Change Management.

Industrial Visits

The Training and Placement cell works actively in co-ordination with the various technical and non-technical departments to regularly organise industrial visits to acquire technical activities involved in production design, maintenance of engineering products in case of technical courses.

For non-technical students these visits focus on learning through interaction with managers who share with the students the recent developments, strategies and market moves of the industry.

Guest Lectures

It also organizes guest lectures by industry experts so that students can be acquainted about the practical functioning of a company and have a fair idea of how their professional life will look like.

The list of guest lecturers includes the names of Mr. Rajit Sikka, Academic Relation Manager-North INDIA From Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, Dr. Kowk wu, Head of Embedded Software and Systems  from Freescale Semiconductor, USA and  Mr. Manas Tygai, Campus Connect team from Infosys Ltd.

GLA believes it is important for any institution to keep in touch with the industry in order to impart education which can be useful in the real world. The industry-academia interface helps students also takes students outside their classes and gives them the outer perspective from the people who have spent decades in the industry.
