SSC Study Material for Reasoning: Data Sufficiency (Set-2)

There are 2-4 questions in SSC CGL out of this chapter. We are providing you different variety of questions which will surely help you in scoring good marks.

 

Data sufficiency questions consist of a question followed by 2 to 5 options. You are required to find out the correct one.  In such type of questions, there is no need of calculations in most cases, only evaluation is needed.

 

Now, here is a question arises that How to approach data sufficiency questions.

  1. Read the answer choices and remember it carefully.
  2. Read the questions and deduce the logic carefully.
  3. Take care of what you need to solve the question.
  4. Consider the statements at a time.
  5. Do not solve problems actually.

 

DATA SUFFICIENCY

Directions (Questions 1 to 25): Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question.

Read both the statements and give answer

(a) if the data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question;

(b) if the data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question;

(c) if the data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question;

(d) if the data given in both statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question; and

(e) if the data in both statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question.

1. T studies in which of the schools B, C, D, E and F?

I. T does not study in the same school as either R or J.

II. R and J study in schools D and F respectively.

 

2. Who is to the immediate right of P among five persons P, Q, R, S and T facing North?

I. R is third to the left of Q and P is second to the right of R.

II. Q is to the immediate left of T who is second to the right of P.

 

3. In a row of five children A, B, C, D and E, who is standing in the middle?

I. D is to the immediate right of E and B is to the immediate left of E.

II. B is at the extreme left of the row.

 

4. In a row of five buildings – P, Q, R, S and T, which building is in the middle?

I. Buildings S and Q are at the two extreme ends of the row.

II. Building T is to the right of building R.

10. P, Q, R, S and T are sitting around a circular table facing towards the centre. Who among them is sitting to the immediate right of R?

I. Q is sitting between P and T, and T is sitting to the immediate right of S.

II. Q is second to the left of R and is second to the right of S.

 

11. Who is sitting to the immediate right of Tanisha among five friends sitting around a circle facing the centre?

I. Ayesha is sitting exactly between Kanak and Sneha and Raj is sitting to the immediate right of Sneha.

17. Madan is taller than Kamal and Sharad is younger than Arvind. Who among them is the youngest?

I. Sharad is younger than Madan.

II. Arvind is younger than Kamal.

 

18. On a T.V. channel, four serials A, B, C and D were screened, one on each day, on four consecutive days but not necessarily in that order. On which day was the serial C screened?

I. The first serial was screened on 23rd, Tuesday and was followed by serial D.

II. Serial A was not screened on 25th and one serial was screened between serials A and B.

I. Monika came after Anita but not after Tanvy.

I. Durgapur is 20 kms away from Rampur.

II. Devipur is 15 kms away from Rampur.

 

22. Which direction is Sunny facing now?

I. If Sunny turns to his right and again turns to his right, he will be facing North.

II. If Sunny walks some distance and turns left and again walks some distance, then his face will be towards left of Dinesh who is facing South.

 

23. How many children are there between P and Q in a row of children?

I. P is fifteenth from the left in the row.

II. Q is exactly in the middle and there are ten children towards his right.

 

24. What is Nitin’s rank from the top in a class of forty students?

I. There are ten students between Nitin and Deepak.

II. Deepak is twentieth from the top.

 

25. On which date in August was Kapil born?

I. Kapil’s mother remembers that Kapil was born before nineteenth but after fifteenth.

II. Kapil’s brother remembers that Kapil was born before seventeenth but after twelfth.
