UGC released List of recommended Major/Minor Research Projects in Humanities & Social Science

In an important notification dated 5 March 2013, UGC released the list of recommended Major/Minor Research Projects in Humanities & Social Science. A total of 564 projects were selected of which 480 were Major Projects and 84 Minor Projects.

A total of 26 candidates from Political Science, 6 from Public Admisitration, 1 from Human Rights, 6 from Law, 2 for Women Studies, 8 for Social Work, 15 for Education, 15 for Sanskrit, 1 for Buddhism, 5 for Philosophy, 21 for English, 2 for Linguistics, 23 for Hindi, 16 for Marathi, 3 for Arabic, 13 for Urdu, 3 for Gujarati, 26 for Economics, 2 for Rural Development, 28 for History, 1 for Archaeology, 79 for Commerce, 65 for Management, 4 for Tourism, 4 for Library and Information Science, 4 for Mass Communication, 12 for Physical Education, 5 for Psychology, 2 for Music, 5 for Fine Arts, 5 for Defence Studies, 1 for Malayalam, 23 for Tamil, 6 for Kannada, 20 for Sociology, 1 for Oriya, 8 for Telugu, 2 for Assamese, 3 for Bengali, 6 for Punjabi, and 2 for Tribal Studies were selected for Major Project.

However, for Minor Project, 3 candidates were selected for Law, 1 for Social Work, 3 for Education, 3 for Sanskrit, 4 for Philosophy, 10 for English, 6 for Hindi, 1 for Economics, 1 for Gujarati, 8 for Economics, 1 for Rural Development, 5 for History, 8 for Commerce, 15 for Management, 1 for Tourism, 3 for Library and Information Science, 4 for Mass Communication, 1 for Physical Education, 1 for Psychology, 1 for Malayalam, 1 for Kannada, 2 for Sociology, and 1 for Bengali were shortlisted.

The Research Funding Council of UGC promotes research in Universities and colleges teachers across varied disciplines to promote excellence in research in higher education. The quantum of assistance for a Major research project in Humanities, Social Science, Languages, Literature, Arts, Law and allied disciplines was Rs 12 lakh and for Minor Research Project was Rs 1.50 lakh.
