Arvind Kumar SinghArvind Kumar Singh, UPPCS exam 2010 (UP Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services Exam-2010) topper (1st rank) in an interview with Kunal Jha and Manoj kumar Mishra of jagranjosh.com shares his success story. The final result of this exam was declared on 10 October 2012. Arvind has B. tech degree in electronics and communication. He says that Internet and mainly jagranjosh.com played a vital role in his success story.  He elaborates various aspects related to his exam preparation. Jagranjosh.com:  Whom would you like to give credit for your success?
Arvind Kumar Singh: I would like to give the credit to my family, God, to my friends, without whom my success could not have been possible.

Jagranjosh.com:  Please tell me about your education?
Arvaind Kumar Singh: I did my matriculation from Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Rampur. I did my intermediate from Jain Inter College, Rampur. I did my B. Tech. from Ideal Institute of Technology, Ghaziabad.

Jagranjosh.com: When did you start preparing for UP state civil services exam?
Arvind Kumar Singh: I was preparing for Civil Services. During that preparation my friends suggested that I should also appear for UP civil services. In 2009, I appeared for the first time. It was my second attempt in 2010.

Jagranjosh.com:  How did you prepare for UPPCS exam?

Arvind Kumar Singh: I took advice of my friends for good study material, correct guidance and quality books.

Jagranjosh.com: Which aspects you focused on while preparing for the exam?
Arvind Kumar Singh: I studied quality books for GS. I consulted my friends for choosing optional. I chose only those optionals which suited my interest as well as were popular.

Jagranjosh.com:  What did you learn from your previous attempt?
 Arvind Kumar Singh: In my previous attempt I had Physics as one of my optional. This time I opted Social work as optional and I got success.

Jagranjosh.com: How much time is required to prepare for UP state civil services exam?
Arvind Kumar Singh: Basically, time period of one to two years is required for preparation. However, it can vary from person to person.

Jagranjosh.com: How much time did you take to prepare for UP state civil services exam?
Arvind Kumar Singh: I started preparing for UPPCS exam since 2008. I took approximately 2-3 years for my exam preparation.

Jagranjosh.com: Did you take help from any coaching institutes for this exam?
Arvind Kumar Singh: Yes, for Geography I took guidance from Majjid Hussain and for GS I took personal guidance from SS Chaudhrey of Vaziram and Reddy.

Jagranjosh.com: What role Coaching institutes do play in exam preparation?
Arvind Kumar Singh: Coaching institutes play an important role in exam preparation. But before joining any coaching institutes one should consult the successful candidates about the credentials of that institute. One should inquire specially about the faculty.
Jagranjosh.com:  How much help did you take from Internet?
Arvind Kumar Singh: I was mainly dependent on Internet for my exam preparation. I took great help from jagranjosh.com Current Affairs and it proved highly advantageous.

Arvind Kumar Singh: It’s a good site.  Its Current Affairs section is regularly updated and its news coverage is wide and to the point.

Jagranjosh.com: Which language did you choose as a medium for this exam?
Arvind Kumar Singh: My medium was English.
