US House passes bill on defence cooperation with India

The US House of Representatives has passed a bill that proposes to advance defence cooperation with India. NDAA-2018 was passed by the House 344-81.

An amendment in this regard, moved by Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera, was adopted by a voice vote by the House as part of the National Defense Authorization Act, NDAA, 2018.
The amendment passed by the House requires the Secretary of Defence, in consultation with the Secretary of State, to develop a strategy for advancing defence cooperation between the United States and India.

Scientists discover galaxy 1000 times brighter than Milky Way

A group of researchers discovered a very distant galaxy, which is about a thousand times brighter than the Milky Way. As per the researchers, it is the brightest of the submillimetre galaxies, a class of ultraluminous infrared galaxies. The discovery was published recently in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

Geological team discovers millions of precious minerals under Indian seabed

Scientists from GSI have discovered millions of tonnes of precious minerals and metals deep under the waters surrounding the Indian peninsula. The GSI compiled the data after surveying 181025 square kilometres of seabed.

Indian research vessels Samudra Ratnakar, Samudra Kaustabh and Samudra Saudikama carried out the exploration, named High-Resolution Seabed Mapping and Natural Resource Evaluation. The main objectives of the exploration were to identify potential zones of favourable mineralisation and evaluate marine mineral resources.

Roger Federer lifts record 8th Wimbledon title

Roger Federer won a record eighth Wimbledon title with a straight-sets victory over Marin Cilic. With this win, 36-year old Federer also became the tournament’s oldest champion. In the finals played in Wimbledon, London, Federer defeated Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. This was his 19th Grand Slam title.
