Union Cabinet approves appointment of Second National Judicial Pay Commission

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the appointment of Second National Judicial Pay Commission (SNJPC) for Subordinate Judiciary in the country. The Commission would be making its recommendations to the state governments within a period of 18 months.

No need to stand up in movie halls to prove patriotism: SC

People not required to stand up in the movie halls to prove their patriotism, the Supreme Court of India observed and asked the Central government to consider amending the decree for regulating playing of the national anthem in the cinema halls. The Apex court also noted that "We don't have to wear patriotism on our sleeve", and that it cannot be believed that if a person does not stand up for the national anthem, then he is “less patriotic“.

Sex with minor wife amounts to rape: SC

The Apex Court of Country Supreme Court struck down the provision of criminal law that legalized sex by a spouse with his minor wife between the age of 15 to 18 years in a child marriage case. The apex court said the exception in the rape law was contrary to the philosophy of other statutes and violates the bodily integrity of a girl child. The court also ruled that the exception given to this is violative of Article 14, 15 and 21 of the Constitution.
