May 11, 2016 17:23 IST

The Government of Delhi has decided to recruit 10000 teachers for various teaching positions in different government schools through taking online tests soon. The guest teachers are presently working at the vacant positions, who are voicing their demands to be made public.

According to a senior government official, “The process and official formalities for recruitment of nearly 10000 teachers are underway and LG’s approval has also been sought. Preparation for the test are in place and as soon as his approval is granted, the dates of the test will be announced.”

The guest teachers along with the general candidates would be able to sit for the online test for these teacher vacancies. The guest teachers are however exempted in upper age by five years, due to their service at the various government schools. They will also get an additional weightage of 0.75 marks for every one year of their teaching experience. The weightage will be given for maximum three years of teaching totaling maximum weightage marks of 2.25 for each guest teacher candidates. This will further motivate the present guest teachers to apply for the test and try and get into the schools as permanent teachers.

At the moment there are nearly 17000 guest teachers employed at over 1021 Delhi schools under the administration of the government. The scarcity of the number of teachers is huge in the NCR region. The government in December 2015 had sanctioned 9623 additional teaching posts. The online recruitment will introduce more transparency and ensure better selection procedure.
