The State Government of Odisha has decided to set up 111 Model schools in the backward districts of the state, which would be functional from the academic year 2015-16.The medium of teaching in these schools would be English. Odia would be kept as the second language in these schools. The schools would have students of classes from 6 to 12.
The schools would be established in all the 314 blocks of the state where there are backward districts. The implementation has long been delayed due to the center’s decision to not fund the establishment of such model schools. But sidelining the centre, the state government has finally taken decision to establish these schools with the help of its own resources.
The schools are scheduled to come up in this current academic year. These schools are going to follow the module of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the medium would be set in English. The schools would secure reservation for girl students, along with reserving seats for SC/ST and OBC candidates. An amphitheater, a mini-stadium, a virtual classroom and horticulture are some of the things that the students are going to get as infrastructure in these schools and it can take the poor and backward family students to the mainstream education provided by CBSE all over the country.
