Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University (CEPT University), Ahmedabad is off to launch a month-long winter school from December in its campus for professionals as well as students to let them brush their skills on subjects outside their courses. In this school around 25 to 30 programs will be taught to add to the skills set of the participants.
Anita Hiranandani, the registrar of CEPT University, said, "It is one of the many changes we have envisioned for the university. As a world class institute, CEPT manages to remain at par with global colleges, especially when it comes to more than just the regular curriculum".
The introduction of a winter school will add to its repertoire as a habitat specific institute. During this special session, students will be allowed to go for any of the 30 odd programs and gain knowledge on subjects other than their pursuing courses.
Ms. Hiranandani further revealed, "It is not just for students, youngsters across the country can apply to these programs. They will be on a number of subjects; from music to languages. We will design them as certificate courses".
It will be mandatory for CEPT students to take on these programs as they will get credits on the basis of their performance in programs. From this year, a student will get only 75 credits from his/her chosen faculty, and for the rest 25 credits they will have to go for other faculties during winter school. From this ad hoc school, undergraduate students will get 20 credits and postgraduate students will receive 10 credits.
The winter school will begin during the break right after semesters going to over in December. "The initiative will offer students an opportunity to explore different dimensions and disciplines, creating a healthy environment of cultural and social diversity. The winter school will be followed by summer school in May," added Hiranandani.
