The Karnataka Private Medical & Dental Colleges Association, in their endeavour to offer an effective, fair and objective testing procedure to determine merit of students seeking admission to the member institutions, have formed “Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka” (COMEDK). COMEDK has been assigned the task of organising a common entrance test for the academic year 2015-2016.
Presently 14 Medical, 23 Dental and more than 150 Engineering colleges, who make available almost 20,000 seats, are affiliated to COMEDK and utilize its testing mechanism for effecting admission to UG Programme during the academic year 2016-2017. KPCF and KUPECA have entrusted COMEDK with the responsibility of conducting the entrance examination and seat selection process.
Earlier for the academic year 2016 - 17, COMEDK had announced that it would conduct Under Graduate Entrance Test 2016 (UGET – 2016) for admission to medical, dental and engineering courses on Sunday the 08/05/2016 and accordingly made all the required arrangements for the conduct of the Test. Further and in view of the subsequent developments with regard to National Eligibility cum-Entrance Test the conduct of COMEDK UGET 2016 for medical and dental streams was announced to be subject to decision of Hon'ble Supreme Court.
Now, the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Writ Petition (C) No(s).261/2016 SANKALP CHARITABLE TRUST Vs UNION OF INDIA AND ORS. Dated 06-05-2016 has directed that “no examination shall be permitted to be held for admission to MBBS or BDS studies by any private college or association or any private/deemed university.”
In the circumstances, it is hereby informed to all the candidates who have applied for ComedK UGET 2016 Entrance Exams for medical and dental streams that the UGET 2016 proposed on Sunday the 8th May 2016 stands cancelled.
For the academic year 2016 - 17, COMEDK will conduct Under Graduate Entrance Test 2016 (UGET – 2016) for admission to undergraduate Engineering courses.
For the first time COMEDK UGET 2016, PGET 2016 entrance exam will be an online computer based test and will be held at centers across the country to facilitate the students to take their exam closer to their homes and to minimize the cost of travel and other logistics.
The COMEDK will be held keeping in view the triple test criteria of being fair, transparent and non-exploitative and to ensure merit based admissions through a single common entrance test followed by centralized counseling as envisaged by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in TMA Pai Foundation Vs. the State (2002) 8 SCC 481, Islamic Academy of Education Vs. the State reported in (2003) 6 SCC 697 and PA Inamdar Vs. the State of Maharashtra reported in (2005) 6 SCC 537.This Brochure provides a fair idea as to how and what the candidates have to follow as procedure for filling the application, eligibility criteria, test procedures, eligibility to participate in seat selection process ,mandatory certificates / documents to be produced, securing the Test Admission Ticket, the malpractices and the measures required to be observed for avoiding the same, consequences of such malpractices, etc.
