The first day of admissions in Delhi University on 2 June went not so smooth despite much preparations planned by the administration.
On the very first day the official website of DU crashed, hence a large number of aspirants failed to download application form online and had to arrive to the campuses to obtain the forms, which created more stress and chaos in the campus.
Both the mismanagement as well as the protests held against four-year FYUP is being held responsible for the mayhem.
The Daulat Ram College (DRC), in North campus had to halt the trade of forms for some hours since the staff had to face protests for handing out the forms. At the college, the admission seekers were barred for a while from going inside the premises. It resumed selling forms later after few hours.
Likewise, Shahid Gurudev Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College had seen huge crowd of admission –seekers and form buyers.
The hard copy of forms can be availed anytime between 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. at 18 centres across Delhi, whereas the online form can be downloaded at any hour, by visiting the DU’s official website.
One of the aspirants said that DU’s website is too slow, it becomes problematic to download the form, and going to campus is the only option they are left with.
The rates of forms have dropped this year as compared to last year, the forms this year can be availed for INR 100 by OBC/General candidates, while INR 50 is for SC/ST candidates.
This year there are no arrangements to be seen for the students like there was last year, such as tents, drinking water etc, said Lokesh Chugh, secretary, National Students Union of India.
The DU is also observing many protests for demanding a rollback of FYUP, with the effigies of Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh getting burned down publically. This made the admission procedure became more havoc especially in the North Campus due to protests by mob, while South campus had the admission process going smooth.
Delhi University is conducting the admission process for 54,000 seats spread across in 61 colleges.
This year, St. Stephen's College, Jesus and Mary and Lady Irwin College are conducting separate admissions and will not be a part of centralized admission process, hence aspirants for these colleges are advised to fill the admission form separately in these colleges.
