What do I have to do as an Auditor?
As an auditor, the job nature is more or less the same irrespective of the department one is posted at. As an auditor in CGDA, one has to look after defence accounts, passing of staff bills etc. Again as an auditor in Controller General of Accounts, one will get posted at state government offices generally and has to carry out audits of expenses incurred by the particular office. Again as an auditor under CAG Office, one may get posted in various departments such as Railways, commercial audit, civil audit, scientific audit, Revenue audit etc. However, the underlying nature of the job remains the same i.e. keeping an eye on the expenses of the concerned department.
Auditor: Promotional Aspects
The promotional aspects for this post is decent as it takes around 6 years to get the first promotion to become senior auditor and then another 5-6 years to become Welfare Assistant, thereafter, Supervisor and so on.
However, there is a departmental SAS (Subordinate Accounts Service) Examination that one can appear for the same after 2 years of service and if one can pass it, he or she becomes Assistant Audit Officer (Group B Gazetted Post with the Grade Pay being 4800 in the Pay Band of 9300-34800). From here, there are more chances of promotions to higher cadres of Audit Officer, Senior Audit Officer etc.
Postings as an Auditor
This is an all India job but the postings are basically in state capitals or in New Delhi or in Tier II cities at the most. But there are frequent transfers and if one is interested in taking promotions, the transfers become all the more frequent. However, girls are generally posted at their places of domicile, if there is any vacancy. .
Auditor: Is it worth it?
This is a Group C post and therefore, postings other than home postings are not attractive in the initial years of service, however, in the long run, it is a very good job if one can pass the SAS examination in time, particularly because, that gives the fastest way to get promotion among any SSC CGLE job. This is an office job and has fixed timings as well. Anybody who is interested in having a government job with ample time to study for other jobs, Auditor could your pick.
