DU Admission 2016: Colleges are confused over ECA admission procedure
The provision of centralized trials to select candidates through the extra-curricular activities (ECA) in the various colleges has given rise to the confusion among the college authorities. They are not sure about the exact admission procedure to be followed as they have no further notification once the trials are over. There is no provision made in case there are more candidates than the number of seats in the college for any particular activity.

According to the Principal of one such college, “We have sent DU the number of seats available for each society. We still have not received any clear guidelines as to what the selection process and the subsequent admission procedure will be. We are guessing it will be based on merit and a list on the lines of a cutoff will be declared.”
According to the Staff advisor of Players of the theatre society of Kirori Mal College, Keval Arora, “This new method has signs of being done in a hurry without understanding the particular challenges of cultural testing. Generally, we test candidates for a range of skills and versatility. This ‘one size fits all’ system is unfair to candidates with particular set of skills. For instance, an actor who plays an instrument will not be known.”
The university has not yet set any norm for the modes of testing and this could seriously make the colleges face problems during the trials. The colleges previously used to conduct their own trials and select students on the basis of their performance. But this year the DU administration has put forward that the selection of ECA students would be made through one particular college, which would organize different activities for such students under DU.
ECA Co-Convenor of Hansraj College, Maya Verma said, “Colleges will merely get a ‘merit list’ with names and marks. How are we then to compare the marks of different trials in different activities when allocating courses?” When contacted the university officials, they said that a detailed guideline would be issued soon on this line.
