IIM Calcutta lowers CAT 2017 Cutoff weight to 56%; Academics to weight 40%
If you are one of the 2 lakh MBA aspirants seeking admission to the prestigious IIM Calcutta through CAT 2017 cutoffs, you are in luck! As per the latest update, Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta has revamped its admission policy for its flagship PGP MBA programmes. The policy details the admission criteria and selection procedure for MBA aspirants, which is super-important as it will decide who gets in and who stays out of one of top MBA colleges in India.
The revamped IIM Calcutta Admission Policy
As per the recently announced IIM Calcutta Admission policy, the B-school has lowered the cut offs in CAT 2017 percentile. In addition to this, the overall weightage of CAT 2017 score has been brought down to 56%, while the weight of academic profile of candidate has been raised to 40%.
What does this actually mean?
Putting it up in layman’s term, this essentially means that merely scoring good percentile score in CAT 2017 is not going to be enough to get your shortlisted for the first round at IIM Calcutta. You academic track-record i.e. your Class 10 and Class 12 Board Exam Result is also going to play a huge role in your selection to the one of the top B-schools in India. Graduation or Bachelor’s degree will not be considered for the academic weightage.
Why lower CAT 2017 percentile weight?
This has been done as a move to attract / shortlist candidates from non-engineering backgrounds. The revised admission policy of IIM Calcutta has been designed in a way that will create a more level playing field for MBA aspirants from all academic backgrounds.
What is will be IIM C’s sectional cutoff for CAT 2017?
As per the new admission policy, the CAT 2017 sectional cutoff has been set at 80 percentile. What this essentially means that only those candidates who are able to secure 80 percentile in each of the three sections i.e. VARC, DILR and Quant will be considered for the first level short listing? In addition to this, the overall minimum CAT 2017 percentile cutoff for IIM C would be set at 90 percentile for the first stage short listing.
But candidates must keep in mind that, CAT 2017 percentile would only weight 56% in the overall selection matrix.
