Indian Students will have No Restraint on Pursuing Education from United Kingdom
Seeing the decreasing number of Indian students pursuing higher education in Britain, the UK secretary of state for business, innovation and skills, Vince Cable affirmed on 9 December 2013 that there is no restraint for Indian students and that they are invited to pursue higher education in UK.
Britain receives thousands of Indian students, however, Chinese students are rapidly rising, whereas Indian students are now declining, which UK is trying to revive, said Cable.
The reason of fallback of numbers from India was prevalent of certain perception that the UK was not welcoming. However, in real UK is welcoming students from India and no caps on the numbers have been set, told Cable on the 9th meeting of India-UK Joint Economic & Trade Committee (JETCO).
The number of students pursuing education in Britain rose to 60,000 in the year 2009. Cable added that students can also obtain jobs after being graduated.
According to the estimations made, India shall require skilled workforce of 500 million people by 2022, and 12 million people to be expected to join the workforce each year. He talked of, UK to facilitate India in providing training skills.
On the JETCO event, the commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma told that 500 ITIs have been establishedand 1,500more ITIs along with 5,000 skill development centersare to be set up in the PPP mode, in a year.
Joint working groups by India and the UK have been launchedin areas of education and skills, advanced manufacturing & engineering and innovation & investment. More than 700 Indian firms are set up in United Kingdom.
Sharma added that there is scope of increasing cooperation from both the countries in advanced manufacturing space extending from aerospace, steel industry, power to electronics.
The joint trade between the two countries has risen to $15 billion. Besides, acontract on agriculture on public stock holding for food security is also a prospect.
