Indians, the Second Largest International Students Group in US
Higher education is important and Indians are moving ahead to different parts of the world to receive good education. In the recent survey it is noted that Indians form the second largest group of international students in US.
About 113,813 Indian students are currently enrolled in different US universities and educational institutions. China topping the charts with 290,133 students who are currently having the largest international students group in US. The report is released by the officials of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
India has the highest number of STEM students leaving China behind. Three-fourths of the Indian students are enrolled in courses in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics which together is known as STEM. According to the report based on the data from Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) about 78% Indians students are enrolled in STEM whereas China has a figure of only 37%. The figures are reported till 01 April 2014. The report more says that about 85% of the STEM students originate from Asia and about 56% students in the international students group comprise of males.
SEVIS is a programme within US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) works as a part of the National Security Investigations Division and is a link between the government organizations that are interested in information on non-migrants who comes to US to pursue their studies as students.
