Staff Selection Commission, Government of India, had notified for the post of Junior Engineers in various disciplines such as civil, mechanical, electrical etc. in various central government organizations such as Central Water Commission, Central Public Works Department, Central Water Research Commission, Department of Posts, directorate General of Quality Assurance etc. The posts are permanent and the pay scale attached to the posts is Rs. 4200 with the grade pay being Rs.9300-34800 as per the pre-revised pay scale. SSC JE 2016-17: Eligibility Criteria

Age Criteria: In case of age criteria, it differs from organization to organization. For organizations such as Central Water Commission, CPWD the upper age limit is 32 years but for Department of posts, it is only 27 years whereas for the other organizations, the same is 30 years for the unreserved category candidates. Relaxations are permissible for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, Ex-Serviceman, physically handicapped etc as per the extant government guidelines i.e. 3 years for OBC Candidates and 5 years for SC / ST Candidates. For Ex Serviceman, this is permissible upto a limit of 3 years whereas for central government civilian employees, the same is 3 years as well. SC, ST, OBC candidates are supposed to get the cumulative benefit of all reservation limits for this examination.

Educational Qualification: For most of the posts, you need either a diploma in civil engineering, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering or a degree in these disciplines will also do. In case you have diploma, you must have experience of one year for a post in Military Engineering Services and in case of Directorate General of Quality Assurance, you must have experience of two years in relevant fields to be eligible for the same.

Nationality: In order to be eligible for the post, you must be a citizen of India or Nepal or Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee or persons of Indian origin who have migrated from Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, Pakistan etc. In case of candidates migrated from other countries, you have to produce certificate issued by the Government of India in order to be eligible.

SSC Junior Engg (JE) Exam Previous Year Paper

SSC JE: Examination Pattern

The commission has decided to hold a computer based examination in December 2016 in order to select candidates for the post. This computer based online examination will be held from 03.12.2016 to 05.12.2016 in various centres across the country. There will be a two tier examination for the same:-

Tier I: This will be an objective type question based paper of 200 marks in which questions will come from General Intelligence and Reasoning and General Awareness of 50 marks each and the part B of the examination will consist of a 100 marks paper based on general engineering in which questions from relevant disciplines such as mechanical, electrical or civil will be asked and it will be of 100 marks. Total time allotted for this paper is 2 hours and the examination will be conducted in two shifts

Tier II: This will be held after tier I examination on a separate date and this is only for those candidates who are declared eligible to take the test based on the results declared by the SSC regarding the tier I examination. This will be a conventional paper of 200 marks where you have to write descriptive answers to questions on Engineering such as civil, mechanical or electrical engineering. Final merit list will be prepared based on your scores in both the tiers and your rank will be decided accordingly. Total time allotted for this paper is 2 hours.

Selection: Once you are declared eligible by the commission to appear in the examination, your merit will be decided based on the marks you have scored in tier I and II in paper I and paper II respectively. You will be asked to exercise your post preference for the process and based on your merit you will be allotted a department in the final selection.

SSC JE 2016-17: Salary Details

For any job for that matter, salary is an important thing because this is the incentive for which we work. SSC Junior Engineer post is a group B non gazetted post with the grade pay Rs 4200 and the pay band being PB 3 of Rs 9300-34800. This is the pre revised pay band and after revision, the present salary is expected to be around 48000 in any major class A city whereas for any other city, it is a bit less depending on the house rent allowance you get but then, if you are living at a smaller place, your expenses towards renting a house will be very less compared to major class A cities.

SSC JE 2016-17: Promotional Aspects and Career Growth

In case you are appointed a Junior Engineer in any of the departments mentioned in the advertisement, the career growth is a bit on the slower side i.e. you will have to wait for a long time to get promoted to your next cadre though there is not much promotion offered in these posts. Depending on the nomenclature of the posts in an organization, you are eligible for promotion in the following cadres:-

Otherwise, most of these candidates shift to banking or SSC CGL for that matter. This job offers you a stable career in your area of expertise without much job stress but for ambitious lot out there, this may be a bit boring after a certain time because of stagnation effect but then there is also Indian Engineering Services Examination conducted by UPSC or GATE examination to get recruited in PSUs across the country. Decide accordingly but as a stepping stone, this is a very decent job based on which, you can prepare for other jobs in the future with less headache and a regular source of income.
