UPSC Prelims CSAT is the GS paper-II of the UPSC Civil Services Prelims examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission every year. The UPSC prelims question paper comprises two papers: General Studies paper-I and General Studies paper-II (CSAT or Civil Services Aptitude Test). The GS paper-II of CSAT was introduced in the UPSC IAS exam in 2011 as a part of the prelims exam. The CSAT paper is held right after the completion of GS paper-I on the same day. It is a qualifying paper and the minimum passing marks for the CSAT has been fixed at 33% by the Commission.

UPSC Prelims CSAT 2023
The UPSC prelims 2023 is scheduled to be held on May 28, 2023, for both the papers: GS paper-I and GS paper-II (CSAT). Candidates appearing for the exam must understand that the UPSC IAS prelims is the first stage of the Civil Services examination (CSE). Candidates qualifying the UPSC Prelims shall only be shortlisted for the UPSC Mains exam.

UPSC Prelims CSAT Exam Pattern 2023

The UPSC prelims examination shall include two compulsory papers, General Studies paper-I and General Studies paper-II CSAT, of 200 marks each. Both the question papers shall be of the objective type (multiple choice questions). Each paper shall be of two hours duration. The question papers shall be set both in English and Hindi.

UPSC Prelims CSAT Marking Scheme 2023
There will be negative marking for incorrect answers as detailed below:
(i) There are four alternatives for the answers to every question. For each question for which the candidate has given a wrong answer, one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty.
(ii) If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happens to be correct and there will be the same penalty as above for that question.
(iii) If a question is left blank i.e. no answer is given by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

UPSC Prelims CSAT Qualifying Marks 2023
The UPSC CSAT paper carries a total of 200 marks and candidates need to score at least 33% (66 marks) to qualify the paper. The Commission will draw a list of candidates to be qualified the UPSC main examination based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies paper-II (CSAT) and total qualifying marks of General Studies paper-I of UPSC Prelims CSE 2023 as may be determined by the Commission.

The CSAT syllabus for the UPSC Prelims GS paper-II shall comprise the following topics:
- Comprehension
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
