The Annual Status of Education Report, ASER 2012 was released in New Delhi on 17 January 2013 by the Minister of Human Resource Development, Dr M.M Pallam Raju.
The focus of the current 12th Five Year Plan is on the quality of education emphasized in schools. There is an emphasis stressed on the quality of teachers along with stress on improved infrastructure that is needed.
One of the major concern that was included in the discussion, was the steeping down fall of the number of girls getting enrolled in schools.
It was also discussed that steps would be taken to create better human beings out of the students taught, by providing them better education and an encouraging environment.
As per the reports, in 2012, 96.5% of all the children in this age group in rural areas were enrolled in schools. The proportion of the children in the age group of 6-14 who are not enrolled in schools has gone up slightly from 3.3% in 2011 to 3.5% in 2012. The increase was the largest in Rajasthan and UP.
It has been estimated that in the next five years, the country could view half of the children attending private schools including the rural areas.
