The National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) will conduct UGC NET June 2013 on 30 June 2013 for the streams like Humanities, Social Sciences (including Languages), Computer Science & Applications and Electronic Science etc. The last date to fill online application is 17 April 2013 and that for sending hard copy is 8 May 2013.

The mode of examination will be objective type with Multiple Choice Questions and will be conducted for 78 subjects at 79 centres across India in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research. The JRFs are awarded to the meritorious candidates from amongst the candidates qualifying for eligibility for lectureship in the NET. However JRFs are only available to the candidates who opt for it in their application forms.
The minimum qualification to take this test is Master’s Degree or equivalent degree from Universities/ institutions recognized by UGC with 55% marks (50% for SC/ ST/ PWD). While there is no age limit for appearing for the post of Lecturers, candidates applying for Junior Research Fellowship and NET both can apply it for maximum age of 28 years.
While the test for Junior Research Fellowship is being conducted since 1984; the Government of India is conducting the eligibility test for lectureship to UGC, through its notification dated 22 July 1988. The first National Eligibility Test, common to both eligibility for Lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship in two parts was held in December 1989 and March 1990.
