The Agriculture Scientist Recruitment Board (ASRB) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) conducts Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Examination for appointment as Scientists in Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The prelims for ARS Examination will be conducted in 55 disciplines on 24 February 2013 at 33 centres across the country.

  • Opening date for sending application: 14 November 2012
  • Closing date for sending application: 18 December 2012
  • Closing date for sending application (from remote areas): 31 December 2012
  • Preliminary ARS Examination 2012: 24 February 2013
  • Main ARS Examination 2012: 23 June 2013

Eligibility Criteria for ARS Examination 2012

Educational Qualification (as on 31 October 2012): Master’s degree in the concerned discipline with specialization in any of the 55 disciplines mentioned in the notification

Age Limit (as on 1 August 2012): Minimum 21 years, Maximum 32 years

Selection procedure for ARS Examination 2012: Candidates will be selected on the basis of two separate competitive examinations followed by viva voce.

Viva Voce



The Preliminary ARS Examination is a qualifying examination and candidates qualifying in the same will only be allowed to appear in the ARS – Main Examination. In addition, Candidates obtaining the minimum qualifying marks in ARS - Main examination will be called for Viva-Voce for the Agricultural Research Service. After the Viva-Voce the candidates will be arranged by the Board in the order of merit in each category (professional subject-wise) as disclosed by the aggregate marks finally awarded to each candidate. 

Candidates who obtain such minimum aggregate marks in the written papers and Viva-Voce without fixing any minimum marks in Viva-Voce as may be fixed by the Board in their discretion shall be recommended for appointment to ARS in accordance with the number of vacancies intimated by the Council under each discipline.

The number of attempts however remains 4 for all candidates (whether MSc/PhD) for appearing in the Agricultural Research Service Examination including the in-service candidates of ICAR. 

How to Apply for ARS Examination 2012: Candidates need to download application form available on the ICAR/ ASRB website and send it to The Secretary, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, Krishi Anusandhan Bhavan, Pusa Road, New Delhi-110012. The application form should be hand written and the envelope containing the application form should be super scribed in bold letters as: “Application for ARS Examination– 2012” along with Preliminary Examination Centre, Code No., ARS Examination Discipline, and Code No. Applications received through Couriers or Courier Services of any type shall be treated as having been received By Hand at the Board’s Counter.

Application Fee: The application fee to be paid by Women/ SC/ ST/ PH candidate is Rs 20, and for General and OBC category candidate is Rs 500. The fee needs to be paid in the form of Crossed Bank Draft only drawn in favour of Secretary, ASRB and payable at New Delhi with the application form. Candidates should write their name and address on the reverse of the Demand Draft.
