The students of Delhi University who are visually challenged would soon get ‘mobility and accessibility’ kits to move more easily around the campus. The kit would include products like DAISY players and smart canes, which would allow smoother movement of these students.
Anil Aneja of DU’s Equal Opportunity Cell said, “DU has joined hands with the ministry of social justice and empowerment to provide mobility and accessibility kits to the varsity’s visually challenged students enrolled.” He further added, “The smart canes will help the students have hassle free mobility on campus and the DIASY players will make their studies easier.”
National Institute for the Visually Handicapped (NIVH), Dehradun has been roped in by Delhi University to work upon the blueprint of the kits and services to be provided to the students. These kits would be further tested and monitored by the agency for better and smoother movement across the campus of the visually challenged students.
The ministry is working on the funds of the second phase where the visually challenged students could be offered tablets for better communication around the campus. Along with these measures the campus in Delhi University is getting designed in such a manner that would help movement of these students much easier.
