Shashi Tharoor (Union minister for human resources development) will commence a district-level comprehensive English training programme. Mr.Tharoor will do the launch ceremony at Government Girls HSS, Peroorkada at 9.30 on Tuesday, presided by MLA, K Muraleedharan
The programme is prepared by district centre for English falling under the department of general education and English and Foreign Languages University of Hyderabad.
The project titled as 'Communicate At Ease in English' (CAEE) aspire to empowering students with English skills, selecting five government schools in the Kerala district.
Originally CAEE( project of a union HRD ministry ) took off in 2011. However, it was unsuccessful to create an impact since it lacked publicity and the other reason being opting of more number of schools.
The district centre for English has now created some changes in its training module and selection process of schools. C Manoj (one of the tutors of CAEE) said only five schools are to be selected this year. It has been decided to comprise UP students also in the programme. Besides, a 50-hour module has been included to provide training to parents, teachers as well as non-teaching staff. The project will run for full 5 continuous years and involves monitoring periodically.
This year, the venue for training is Govt Girls HSS, Peroorkada, Govt H S, Kilimanoor, Govt Tribal LPS, Theviyarkunnu, Govt UPS Parakkal and Vinobha Nikethan UPS, Vellanad. These all are government-aided school.
As informed by Manoj, the first stage of the programme is to provide motivational training to all teachers. The next session is for parents to guide them creating a helpful environment for their children to communicate in English. Non-teaching staff members will also get training. A resource group of teachers will be formed to train the students. The sessions will held in extra hours.
In the end, among the trained students, 60 students will be chosen as promoters for the upcoming years.
Peroorkada R Asokan (PTA president of GGHSS) informs, that this programme targets mainly at offering coaching to those students, who are unable to take advantage of coaching centres.
