CAT 2010 Exam Analysis
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is one of the most disciplined and mandatory entrance test for those who wish to be a part of the Post-Graduate Management Programs in IIM’s i.e Indian Institute of Management colleges in India. The CAT score is used separately by each participating institute along with some other parameters like Past Academic records etc for admission of candidates.

This test is conducted once in every year and the mode is Online.
The analysis of CAT is done after the exam is conducted. The basic objective behind CAT exam analysis is to guide future CAT aspirants through the difficulty level of the exam, CAT exam structure, and different topics. In this article, candidates can go through the CAT exam analysis and prepare accordingly.
In 2010, CAT was conducted from 27th October to 24th November. The management entrance test was held in computer-based format. It consisted of 3 sections namely, Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning.

Detailed Sectional Analysis
SECTION-I: VERBAL ABILITY:-
- Level of Questions - Moderate.
- Verbal Ability - covered almost every topic of English Usage like para-jumbling, para-completion, Fill in the blanks, Correct usage of words etc.
- Scoring basics- Good knowledge of Grammar and Vocabulary and Newspaper reading.
- Total numbers of Reading Comprehension Passages were 3 and each of them carried 3 questions.
SUMMARIZED EVALUATION:
Overall the section comprised of moderate level questions and a proper time management would really had helped in fetching high marks and maintain decent percentile.
SECTION-II : QUANTITATIVE ABILITY :-
1) Questions in this particular section were based on Simple calculations.
2) Difficulty level of this section was moderate.
3) 3 to 4 questions were based on Geometry and 7-8 were based on Arithmetic, Number theory and a few on Algebra.
4) There was a mixture of high level as well as low level maths. Application of algorithm was also included.
5) Some of the questions also tested the basic understanding of percentages, permutation & combination, ratios, volumes of cylinders etc.
SUMMARIZED EVALUATION:
This section, if taken as a whole, the difficulty level was moderate. Time-management was one mandatory element to deliver the best in the test.
SECTION-II: DATA INTERPRETATION & LOGICAL REASONING :-
1. The most lengthy and time-consuming section.
2. Very lengthy and big calculations were involved.
3. The Data Interpretation Sets basically involved streams like :
- Pie charts
- Bar Graphs
- Tables
- Line graphs
- 3-D Charts
- Maxima & Minima
4. On the contrary, Logical Reasoning Questions were based on:
- Set of conditions
- Logical arguments
- Venn diagrams
- Puzzles
SUMMARIZED EVALUATION:
This section was lengthy and needed a lot of patience to be catered. Tedious calculations led to make it more tough and time-consuming.
