CAT 2012 Exam Analysis - The exam month of CAT 2012 has come to an end— a relief to many. It can be said with each passing year the coveted exam brings new flavour with it each year. Hence, it was proved this year too. According to the CAT 2012 exam analysis, this year witnessed Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation sections to be the toughest.

Here we bring to you the detailed analysis of CAT exam that will help candidates understand how the CAT 2012 exam was conducted and what precautions should be taken while attempting questions from different sections.

CAT Exam Analysis 2012

CAT which reads as the Common Admission Test is one of the most disciplined and mandatory entrance test for those who wish to be a part of the IIM’s i.e Indian Institute of Management colleges in India. The CAT score is used separately by each participating institute along with some other parameters like Past Academic records etc for admission of candidates. This test is conducted once in every year. Over 2 lakh candidates take the CAT exam every year.

In 2012, CAT was conducted from 11th October to 6th November over a span of 21 days and the test was computer based.

CAT 2012: An overview of the paper

Detailed Sectional Analysis of CAT Exam

SECTION-I: VERBAL ABILITY & LOGICAL REASONING:-

• It had a total of 3 passages.
• The level of difficulty was Moderate.
• The total no. Of questions that it consisted was 10 (4 from 1st passage, 3 from 2nd passage and 3 from the 3rd passage.)

AREA-2: Verbal Ability:

• It included: Word Usage, Para jumbling, Para Completion, Fill in the blanks & Sentence Correction.
• Total No. Of questions were between 11.
• The difficulty level was again Moderate type.

AREA-3: Logical Reasoning:

• It consisted of questions based on Data Arrangement; Sitting Arrangement & Logic based questions.
Total No. Of Questions in this area were 9.
Moderate level difficult.

CAT 2012 Exam Analysis: SUMMARIZED EVALUATION

Overall the section comprised of moderate level questions. One out of those, three passages were bit difficult but then rest of the parts were moderate. English usage’s all aspects were covered in the questions falling under Verbal Ability. Logical reasoning had 3 sets each carrying 3 questions.

SECTION-II: QUANTITATIVE ABILITY & DATA INTERPRETATION:-

AREA-1: Data Interpretation:

• It consisted of the questions in the form of Combination of Pie charts, Graphs and Tables.
• The total no. Of Questions that it consisted was 9.
Difficulty level was Moderate to Difficult.

AREA-2 : Quantitative Ability:

• This section had questions from the topics: Mensuration, Algebra, Geometry, Number System and Arithmetic.
• Total no. Of Questions were between 21.
• It was of moderate level.

CAT Exam Analysis 2012: SUMMARIZED EVALUATION

This section, if taken as a whole was difficult and needed speedy calculations. Other need was the clarity of the basics and fundamentals of Data Interpretation problems. Time-management was one very mandatory endeavour to be delivered this time.
