The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) decided to introduce “Human Rights and Gender Studies” for the students of classes eleventh and twelfth, from the next academic session, 2013-14.
This decision came in the time of the uproar in the nation, due to the Delhi gang rape. The subject is scheduled to be offered as an elective course.
In the same regard, the National Human Rights Commission Framework of 2005 also noted that the inclusion of the course may act as a great help for students.
Apparently, the Board has already prepared a blue print of the syllabus for the subject, and the PMO has also apparently written to the HRD Ministry to include chapters on value education in text books.
