Q. Find the value(s) of k for which the equation x2 + 5kx + 16 = 0 has real and equal roots.
Sol.
For roots to be real and equal, b2 – 4ac = 0
⇒ (5k)2 – 4 × 1 × 16 = 0

Q. Find the 20th term from the last term of the AP 3, 8, 13,...., 253.
Sol.
20th term from the end = l − ( n − 1)
= 253 – 19 × 5 = 158
Q. Two dice are thrown at the same time and the product of numbers appearing on them is noted. Find the probability that the product is a prime number
Sol.
Total number of outcomes = 36
Favourable outcomes are (1,2), (2,1), (1,3), (3,1), (1,5), (5,1) i.e. 6
Required probability = 6/36 or 1/6
