After the discontinuation of dual assessment scheme, from this year onwards, students of CBSE class 9 will be assessed on the basis of an annual exam for each subject which will be asked from the complete syllabus of class 9. With the introduction of new assessment scheme, board has also revised the examination examination pattern and the question paper format for the annual exams. So, to get prepared for the new exam structure, it’s very important for students to know the latest examination pattern and question paper structure for class 9 annual exams 2018.

CBSE Class 9 English Communicative Examination Pattern is as follows:

CBSE class 9 English Communicative question paper will be conducted for 80 marks covering 100% syllabus. The remaining 20 marks are kept for internal assessment (IA) which will be added while calculating the overall grade.

Internal Assessment will be conducted as per the following marks distribution:

Periodical Test  (Average of three periodic tests)

CBSE Class 9 English (Language and Literature) Question Paper format will be as given below:

CBSE Class 9 English (Language and Literature) Question Paper will consist of a total of 11 questions divided into three section, viz., A, B and C. Section-Wise Weightage will be as follows:

CBSE Class 9 Science Examination Pattern 2018

The questions’ format employed in each section will be as follows:

Section A

Reading: 20 Marks

This section will have two reading passages as per the details below:

• Question 1. A Factual passage with eight Very Short Answer Type Questions. [8 Marks]
• Question 2. A Discursive passage with four Short Answer type Questions to test inference, evaluation and analysis with four Very Short Answer type Questions to test vocabulary. [12 Marks]

Section B

Writing and Grammar: 30 Marks

• Question 3. Writing a diary/article in about 100-120 words based on visual or verbal clues. [8 Marks]
• Question 4. Writing a short story based on a given outline or clues in about 200- 50 words.  [12 Marks]
• Question 5. Gap filling with one or two words to test prepositions, articles, conjunctions and Tenses. [3 Mark]
• Question 6. Editing or Omission. [4 Marks]
• Question 7. Sentences reordering or sentence transformation in context. [3 Marks]

Section C 

Literature: 30 Marks

• Question 8: One out of two extracts from prose/poetry/play. Four Very Short Answer Questions: two questions of one mark each on global comprehension and two questions of one mark each on interpretation. [4 Marks]
• Question 9: Four Short Answer Type Questions from the Literature Reader to test local and global comprehension of theme and ideas. (30-40 words each) [2 × 4 = 8 Marks]
• Question 10: One out of two Long Answer type Questions to assess how the values inherent in the text have been brought out. Creativity, imagination and extrapolation beyond the text and across the texts will be assessed. (100-120 words)[8 Marks]
• Question 11: One out of two Very Long Answer Questions on theme, plot involving interpretation, inference and character sketch, in about 150-200 words based on the prescribed extended reading text. (150-200 words)[10 Marks]

All questions are compulsory however some questions might have an internal choice to select from.
