CBSE may seize Christmas holiday

Dec 15, 2014 14:15 IST

This year the CBSE is planning to observe the December 25 as Good Governance Day as it happens to be the birthday of former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and also of Madan Mohan Malviya. So the Christmas holiday might be seized as the students are expected to be engaged in an essay competition and other activities planned by the board for the day. Though, the CBSE is yet to issue the circular asking schools to observe Good Governance Day, but an intimation about these plans was formed when CBSE-affiliated Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti revealed a relevant circular this week that includes the plans of holding an essay competition and a one-act play for CBSE schools and of quiz competitions and screening of documentaries and films for Navodaya Vidyalayas.

Christmas Day is celebrated with much ardour all across the state Goa. So, some of the schools in state including The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya even are unlikely to hold the celebrations.

Authorities at CBSE schools in the state clarified that they are unable to comment on this matter as they have not received any such intimation as yet.

S Kannan, principal of JNV Canacona said that their school being a residential school, students have already made plans to leave for their Christmas holidays which begin on December 24. So it will be unable to hold any programmes on December 25.
