Compulsary Sports Period for CBSE Students from April 2019

Students in classes 1 to 8 in CBSE-affiliated schools will now have one period every day for Health and Physical Education. These mandatory classes on physical education will start from April 2019.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has formulated new sports guidelines for schools mandating them to have a daily sports period for classes 1 to 8. These mandatory classes on physical education will start from the upcoming academic session which will start from April 2019.

The board had implemented compulsory period for Health and Physical Education (HPE) for class 9 to 12 students last year.

CBSE Released a Circular on Mandating HPE for Classes 1 to 8

In regards of mandating the physical education subject for students of class 1 to 8, CBSE released a circular which states that "The board has decided to implement Health and Physical Education (HPE) programme for Classes one to eight w.e.f. session 2019-20 onwards, with the aim of holistic development of the child, leading to a well-balanced in all walks of life."

Directing all its schools to include a daily sports period  from new session, CBSE’s circular reads that “Keeping the above in view, the schools are advised that while preparing time table for session 2019-20, one period every day may be reserved for Health and Physical Education (HPE) for classes 1 to 8 for session 2019-20 onwards.”

 “The revised and updated transactional strategies, detailed guidelines and methodology for administering HPE (Health and Physical Education) to students will be available on CBSE website shortly." the circular further reads.

With the implementation of these new sports guidelines introduced by CBSE, all the CBSE-affiliated schools will now have one period every day for Health and Physical Education for classes 1 to 8, the primary focus of which has to be on sports, games and outdoor activities.

Right now CBSE is smoothly conducting the Board Examinations for Classes 10 and 12. For Class 10 the examination had begun on February 21 and will continue till March 29. However, for class 12 the board examination commenced on February 15 and will end on April 3.
