CBSE Unaware of Gujarat Quitting JEE

CBSE not aware of Gujarat’s decision of quitting JEE for admissions to engineering institutes in the state. The JEE admission notification issued by CBSE states that Gujarat is still a part of the JEE system for admissions to engineering institutes in the state.

Gujarat government had earlier this year issued a notification of making Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) unnecessary and introducing Gujarat Common Entrance test for admission to the institutes in the state. But the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) seems to be completely unaware of the whole affair as the notification issued by the board for JEE (Main) states that Gujarat is still a part of the JEE system for admissions to engineering institutes in the state.

The JEE admission notification issued by CBSE reads, "The states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Nagaland, Odisha & some other institutions have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, where earlier admissions were based on their state-level examinations, are also advised to fill the JEE (Main)-2017 application form online."

After encountering the whole situation, the Gujarat education department realized the failure of communicating the decision to withdraw from JEE to the CBSE. Gujarat education minister Bhupendra Chudasma said that the state authorities might have forgotten to inform the competent authorities of its decision. Soon after bringing out the notification of quitting JEE for the admissions to engineering institutes in the state, the competent authorities conducting the JEE examinations were to be informed about the decision but the Gujarat authorities forgot the same.

As per the state officials, “The authorities will rectify the mistake soon and inform the competent authorities to make the necessary corrections.”
