The HRD ministry instigated a program for clean schools in line with the Centre's Swachh Bharat campaign. Being referred to as the 'Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya' campaign, it will go on till 31st October.

The HRD ministry instigated a program for clean schools in line with the Centre's Swachh Bharat campaign. Being referred to as the 'Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya' campaign, it will go on till 31st October.

CBSE wrote to all its affiliated schools that they must try & take part in this campaign to pay reverence to Mahatma Gandhi. CBSE’s director wrote that Gandhi always said 'cleanliness is next to godliness', that is the reason why the CBSE decided to launch their campaign from 2nd October. Nevertheless, school started early for the Human Resource Development ministry which commenced its campaign from New Delhi.

As per CBSE, some initiatives that can be taken up by schools comprise of cleaning of classrooms, libraries, laboratories, any statue installed on campus, cleaning of drinking water areas and toilets. Cleaning activities may also expand to kitchen sheds, playgrounds, stores & maintenance of school gardens.

Schools are also advised to conduct activities school assembly on different aspects of cleanliness. These activities should focus on Gandhi's teachings on cleanliness & hygiene. CBSE has encouraged schools to fill their sanitation status online at www.schoolsanitation.com. This is an award winning activity. The highest scoring schools with green rating will be awarded cash of Rs. 1,00,000. If the school gets blue rating the school will get a cash award of Rs. 75,000. If the school gets yellow rating, the school will get Rs 25,000. But if they are red or black, they need to improve.
