Communications University by Government to Come up soon

Dec 30, 2014 16:15 IST

To regulate and conduct procedures centrally in the field of media, films and animation, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry of India is planning to set up a Communications university. This would be an umbrella body functioning as the central body for all the universities offering media and film studies.

The Ministry is planning to set up the university within a time span of 3 years. The institute would come in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of stabilizing this sector. Along with this the ministry has also planned some initiatives in their short and medium term.

The new entity once established can standardize the education system in sectors like journalism, media, films, animation and visual effects. Right now the education in these areas is often provided by private institutions and nor standardized.

The ministry is also planning to initiate a single window clearance mechanism for film shootings in India and is working in the model for long. At present the conditions are not pretty smooth when it comes to film shootings and producers have to wander to different officials and groups to get permission for shootings in various parts of the country. The ministry is also willing to provide online certifications to films and is devoted to provide the mechanism in coming years.
