Mar 30, 2013 11:29 IST

This July, 2013 the Confucius Institute will be set up at the Kalina campus of the University of Mumbai. China has so far given a whopping sum of $1,50,000 to the University for the same.

The centre is to be in collaboration with the Tianjin University of Technology in China in the presence of the teachers themselves , who will be flown directly down from China.

The Institute is a nonprofit, public institute that allows cultural exchange and also teach Mandarin (language) through schools and Universities.

It must be noted that the structure, syllabi of the various courses and fee and number of seats still remain to be worked out so far.

Several varsity delegations have flown to Tianjin over the last two years, i.e- 2011 and 2012 to work out the details of the collaboration.

At present, there are almost three hundred and fifty such centers in around one hundred and eighty countries that offer courses in Mandarin and the Chinese culture, which includes sports, food, music etc.
