With many of the universities under the aegis of UGC(University Grants Commission) failing to submit the information that the body asked from the various universities for the spread of Digital India Initiative, UGC has circulated a new circular to the universities instructing them to take action as early as possible.

UGC would now map various universities running across the nation and analyze the internet connectivity options of these universities under their Digital India Initiative, which is the brainchild of PM Narendra Modi.

In the circular issued by the body, they have mentioned the various universities and educational institutes to submit all the relevant information needed to kick start the project of digitalizing the education sector in India.

Jaspal S Sandhu, the UGC secretary said in a circular to the VCs of various universities, “A pre-devised format to identify the status of IT penetration in your university and information on optical fibre connectivity, LAN facility and Wi-Fi facility was sought.”

However according to Sandhu more than 100 universities have failed to submit the required information before the deadline which was set in February.
