    Q. Do you know how the dead bodies were preserved as Mummies in ancient Egypt

Ans. The ancient Egyptians had a strong belief in life after death. So they preserved the dead bodies for being used afterlife. In the process of mummifying a dead body, internal organs like brain, lungs, stomach, liver and various intestines except the heart would be removed and put into canopic jars. The heart was left untouched inside the body as it was believed to be the centre of intelligence and emotions. After this the abdominal cavity was rinsed with palm wine and then stuffed with sweet smelling spices and saw dust. The body was then dehydrated by covering it with natron which is a natural salt consisting of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate with traces of sodium chloride and sodium sulfate. Eventually, the body was wrapped with linen bandages and put into a stone coffin.
