The National Institute of Open Schooling (formerly known as National Open School) provides education to students through Open and Distance Learning Mode. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) started this education board with an aim to provide education to the learners who could not avail the facility of formal schooling. It is also a recognised board like CBSE, ICSE boards in India. The students can continue their study while doing any job to fulfill their basic needs. Students have different FAQs on the documents required for admission, age criteria and minimum education required for admission to secondary and senior secondary level education. In this article, we are going to provide answers for all these FAQs in a simple manner.

Question:

What documents need to be submitted along with admission form for admission in Secondary and Senior Secondary Course?

Identity proof

Aadhaar Card or Passport or Ration card

Date of Birth

Aadhaar Card or Birth Certificate

Proof of Residence

Aadhaar Card or Passport

Address proof

Aadhaar Card/Water Bill/Electricity Bill/Voter ID/Ration Card/Indian Passport/Statement of Operational Bank Account/Appointment Letter from the Employer on Printed Letter Head

Minimum Qualification

 

Class 8th Marksheet (For Admission in Secondary Level)

 

Class10th Marksheet (For Admission in Senior Secondary Level)

 

Others (If applicable)

  • Social category/Caste certificate (in case the learner belongs to SC/ST/OBC social category).
  • Ex-serviceman certificate (in case he/she is an Ex-serviceman).
  • Disability certificate (in case he/she is having any kind of disability)
  • Fail Mark sheet of previous Board, failing which Transfer of Credit (TOC) marks will not be updated in NIOS result.

Question:

What is the minimum and maximum age required for admission in Secondary and Senior Secondary Course?

Answer:

There is no upper age limit for admission. However, the minimum age for enrolment is 14 years for the Secondary course and 15 years for the Senior Secondary course.

Differences between CBSE, ICSE & NIOS Boards

Question:

What is the valid proof of date of birth?

Answer:

The certificate of date of birth issued by a Municipal Corporation, a Municipal body, a village Panchayat or any other body’ authorised by Registrar, Birth and Death, Government of India is a valid proof. A medical certificate in respect of age issued by Government Hospital is also acceptable as valid proof in case of orphans or street children.

Question:

What is the minimum education required for admission in Secondary and Senior Secondary Course?

Answer:

Students must have passed class VIII for admission to the Secondary Course. Also, if a student thinks "I have studied enough to be able to pursue secondary course" is eligible. A student must have passed the Secondary course from a recognised Board for Senior Secondary admission.
