After a week’s gap, the admission procedure in Delhi University colleges resumed with the three-year undergraduate programme format. On Day one itself, the crowd came gushing in the North Campus in hope of getting admission in their dream colleges. However, the admission process went smoothly on Day 1, more because cut-offs were high and majority of students had to wait for second cut-offs list and so on.
CBSE topper Sarthak Agarwal, who scored 99.6% in Class XII Boards, successfully took admission in BCom (honours) in SRCC.
The subsequent admission days are to pour in more mob for getting admission since the cut-offs will decrease and more candidates will be competing for seats. In addition those students who belonged to outside Delhi and went back to their home due to hiatus in Admission Procedure as well as declaration in cut-offs, are to rejoin, increasing more admission-seekers in the crowd.
The most coveted colleges are to be seen as SRCC, Hindu, Kamala Nehru, Sri Venkateswara, Miranda House, Kirori Mal, Hans Raj, and Shivaji, which saw large number of applicants on the initial day. Whereas, colleges -- SGTB Khalsa, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya and Dyal Singh (Morning), had also received substantial number of admission seekers.
Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) have already enrolled 226 students to its commerce (honours) course (501 seats) and 102 students to its economics (honours) course leaving just 21 seats to be filled.
Hindu College saw only two admissions made in the BA programme , Ram Lal Anand saw none for B.A. as well as B.Com programmes.
Miranda House received only 10 application for its BA and BSc programmes while, no admission were made to the BA and BCom programmes at Dyal Singh (Morning), however 60 admissions to the BCom (honours) course were accepted in Deen Dayal Upadhayay with 95 and above cut-offs. Upon this Hindu College principal Pradyumn Kumar said that these programmes are back again but with remarkably high cut-offs, which is why few admission takers came for these courses. The admission to these courses will pick-up as soon as the cut-offs will drop.
On the second day i.e. Wednesday, more admission-seekers arrived than the first day. Many students were disappointed to see such high cut-offs on day 2 as well.
Many who could make it are still waiting for the second cutoff list, which will be announced tonight at late evening.
The problems with downloading application over website were faced by many students. Besides, the worst hit were the outstation students who were unable to procure correct information about new norms and criteria, recently got changed and set for admissions. The website did not help much to the outsiders, since it had no clear or updated information.
