  1. Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) was on 2 June 2015 awarded the Miniratna (Cateogry -1) status by the Department of Public Enterprises under the Union Ministry of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises.
  2. Second bi-monthly monetary policy statement 2015-16 was announced on 2 June 2015 by Raghuram Rajan, the Governor of Reserve Bank of India.
  3. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 1 June 2015 allowed cross holding in long-term infrastructure bonds. With this, now banks would be able to cross hold these bonds among themselves for financing infrastructure and affordable housing loans, which earlier was not permitted.
  4. The decision of the Parliament to increase the rate of service tax from12.36 to 14 percent became operational on 1 June 2015.


  1. Bellandur Lake, the largest lake of Bengaluru, was in the news in first week of June 2015. It was in news as a team of researchers from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) found that the fire on the water of Bellandur Lake on 16 May 2015 was caused due to industrial effluents in the water.  
  2. UK Author Ali Smith on 3 June 2015 won the 2015 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction for her novel How to be Both.
  3. Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) first-ever Jan Aushadhi Generic Drug (JAGD) Store was inaugurated on 5 June 2015 at its headquarters in IP Estate, New Delhi. The store will offer over 118 commonly used drugs at a 10 to 20 percent lesser price than market value.
  4. World Environment Day (WED) was observed globally on 5 June 2015 with theme Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care. 
  5. Suresh Kalmadi on 2 June 2015 was conferred with the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) President’s award. He was awarded for his contribution towards the development of athletics in Asian continent.
  6. The US-based World Justice Project (WJP) on 2 June 2015 released the Rule of Law Index 2015. The 2015 index, fifth in the series, provides data on how the rule of law is experienced in 102 countries around the globe.
  7. The abbreviation MCOCA was in news in first week of June 2015. It came in news after the state government of Maharashtra on 3 June 2015 invoked its stringent provisions against five persons from Nashik for allegedly being part of ration mafia.


  1. R Seshasayee was on 5 June 2015 appointed as the Non-Executive Chairman of Infosys Limited. He succeeded KV Kamath, who resigned to head the proposed BRICS New Development Bank in China.
  2. Fortune on 4 June 2015 released the 61st edition of list of top 500 companies. These Fortune 500 companies account for 12.5 trillion US dollar in revenues, 945 billion US dollar in profits, 17 trillion US dollar in market value and employ 26.8 million people worldwide.
  3. Volvo Auto India on 1 June 2015 appointed Tom von Bonsdorff as Managing Director. He will take over with immediate effect. He succeeded Tomas Ernberg. Tomas Ernberg is moving back to Sweden in a new role.
  4. Stempeutics Research Pvt Ltd on 1 June 2015 announced that its stem cell drug, Stempeucel, received Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) from the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
  5. Indian-American Punit Renjen was on 1 June 2015 appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (Deloitte Global) with immediate effect. Renjen succeeded Barry Salzberg, who retired from Deloitte Global on 31 May 2015.
  6. Cult bike maker Harley-Davidson on 2 June 2015 tied up with fashion portal Myntra to sell its casual merchandise through an exclusive online store.
  7. FMCG player Emami Limited on 2 June 2015 acquired ayurvedic hair and scalp care brand Kesh King for 1651 crore rupees. With this acquisition, Emami forays into the fast-growing haircare segment. Emami’s current oil portfolio includes Navratna Cool Oil and Emami 7 Oil in One Damage Control Hair Oil.
  8. Pawan Munjal was on 1 June 2015 appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) & CEO of Hero MotoCorp Ltd (HMCL). He succeeded his father Brijmohan Lall Munjal, who resigned on 1 June 2015.
  9. Intel Corporation on 1 June 2015 announced that it will acquire Altera Corporation for 16.7 billion US dollars.
  10. Amit Jain was on 31 May 2015 appointed as the President of US-based taxi hailing app Uber's India operations. In this role, Amit will be running all business strategy, operations, and growth in a market of global strategic importance for Uber.


  1. Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejunivetion Uma Bharti on 5 June 2015 launched nationwide Jal Kranti Abhiyan (campaign) from Jaipur, Rajasthan. 
  2. The Union Government on 2 June 2015 launched the Khoya Paya web portal, the first-of-its-kind citizen based website to exchange information on missing and found children.
  3. The Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi on 2 June 2015 launched the IAP HealthPhone programme in New Delhi. The IAP HealthPhone programme is the world’s largest digital mass education programme for addressing the malnutrition in women and children.
  4. The Union Government on 1 June 2015 simplified the defence rules to boost defence manufacturing in the country and encourage foreign players to explore business in India.


  1. Prominent scientist Ameenah Gurib-Fakim was on 5 June 2015 sworn in as President of Mauritius. With this, Gurib-Fakim became the first female president of Mauritius, which gained independence from Britain in 1968 and replaced Britain's Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state in 1992.
  2. The Dispute Settlement Board of World Trade Organisation (WTO) on 4 June 2015 ruled against the India’s ban on import of meats from the United States (US). The ban on imports of meat covered poultry meat, eggs and live pigs.
  3. India and the Netherlands on 5 June 2015 signed several agreements to deepen bilateral cooperation.
  4. India and Bangladesh on 6 June 2015 inked signed, exchanged, adopted and handed 22 bilateral documents in Dhaka. 


  1. Former Captain of Indian cricket team Rahul Dravid on 6 June 2015 was named as coach of India ‘A’ and Under-19 cricket teams. Rahul Dravid’s name for coaching India’s junior team was confirmed by BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur in his press conference in Kolkata.
  2. Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland on 7 June 2015 won his first French Open title of Tennis. In the final clash played at Roland Garros in Paris, Wawrinka defeated Novak Djokovic of Serbia 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.
  3. American Sprinter Justin Gatlin on 4 June 2015 finished the 100m race at the Rome Diamond League in record 9.75 sec held in Rome, Italy.
