Keeping in mind the heavy demand of the students, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women (GGSCW) has decided to offer three new courses, BSc (Non-Medical), BSc (Computer Science) and MA in Economics. The admission procedure of the college has begun from June 5 for this academic session.
The Principal of the College, Charanjeet Kaur Sohi has pointed out that the demand for science subjects were picking up in the college after there was a period of inclination towards the engineering courses. She said, “Many students had come to us enquiring about science subjects. So we decided to start a non-medical degree course.” The new courses BSc (Non-Medical) and BSc (Computer Science) would have 80 seats each, whereas the MA in Economics course would offer tentatively 60 seats to the students.
To appoint the new faculty and roll out the infrastructure needed for opening up the courses, the college has been given time till June 30. Sohi has pointed out that the requirement for the faculty members has already begun and the requirements in infrastructure too would be met by the end of this month. Teachers would be hired for the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects as well.
The college is in plans to start a Bachelor of Vocation course in Finance and Banking as well. The college needs UGC (University Grants Commission) approval, in order to initiate the course and the decision regarding the approval would be taken in an interface meeting with the UGC officials on June 8.
