The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha (GGSIP) University, Delhi will not be able to provide affiliations to new institutions in the current academic session 2014-15, following the orders of Department of Higher Education of Delhi Government.
In addition, the varsity is also restricted from introducing new courses in any of the off-campus colleges/institutions which are affiliated to IP University and the intake capacity will also remain same as was earlier with no revision this year.
The directions were issued by Lt Governor Najeeb Jung while he was considering the policy for grant of No Objection Certificate to private institutions affiliated to GGSIP University in the current academic session.
Among the total 106 college/institutions affiliated with the IP University, some 86 are private educational institutions.
As per the sources, the orders were issued as the department were getting large number of complaints stating that the violations of guidelines set by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is practiced at large scale by many affiliated institutions.
Further explanation reveals that some colleges are not equipped with proper space and required infrastructure, while teachers are also not well-qualified and properly trained in other colleges for certain courses. Few have no proper installation of enough computers, appointment of sufficient faculty etc.
The University has formed a committee in which the experts will restructure the affiliation process to better them and for the same the committee has already submitted its report.
