Government declares New IIT and IIMs at Various States

The government announced new IIT to come up in Karnataka along with one IIM in Jammu & Kashmir and in Andhra Pradesh. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced it while presenting the Union budget.

The government announced new IIT to come up in Karnataka along with one IIM in Jammu & Kashmir and in Andhra Pradesh. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley while presenting the Union budget said, “In the fiscal year 2015-16, I propose to set up an IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) in Karnataka, and upgrade Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad into a full-fledged IIT”.

A Post Graduate Institute of Horticulture Research and Education is also announced by the Finance Minister in his budget speech. This institute would come up in Amritsar and is proposed to come up soon. He even proposed to upgrade the existing National Institute of Speech and Hearing of Kerala to a university of Disability Studies and Rehabilitation.

Jaitley in his previous year’s budget on July 2014 had made this clear that he has intentions to start one major central institute in each state so that students from every state could get equal chances when it comes to higher studies. Along with these institutes he also proposed three new National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research which would come up one each in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Jaitley further added that Institutes of Science and Education Research in Nagaland and Odisha. Proposal to set up a centre for film production, animation and gaming in Arunachal Pradesh, for the north-eastern states and Apprenticeship Training Institute for Women in Haryana and Uttarakhand, is also enlisted in the budget.

Jaitley has also said he would focus on setting up a fully IT based Student Financial Aid authority which would be responsible for monitoring and administrating Scholarships as well and Educational loan schemes run by government under Pradhan Mantri Vidya Lakshmi Karyakaram. This would immensely help the poor and middle class students who are willing to carry forward their higher education that too without thinking much for the fund constraints.
