Tackling Negative Marking

The one sure way to tackle the negative marking is to memorise all the facts and figures. But it is very burdensome and every human mind has its own limit so no candidate can mug up all the facts.  Now here, the law of probability plays its part. There are lots of information present in the candidates’s mind in the dormant stage, which can be used by comparing the answer options in the light of a given question. This is a way to use the dormant knowledge for one’s advantage. The candidate must have the knowledge to eliminate at least two options which can not be true in any instance. So the candidate has to choose only one from the two.

This means that there is a 50% chance of getting the right answer. The negative marking will make a dent of 0.66 marks. It means if a candidate answer three wrong questions and one right answer through the intelligent and calculated guess work than the candidate did not loose anything. But if more than one question became right than the candidate is in an advantageous position.

So intelligent and calculated guess can increase the score of the candidate can help in the overall marks.

Time Management

Time management is the most ignored component in the UPPCS Prelims Preparation. But it is a very crucial factor which can insure the selection in the UPPCS Exam. Time Management means how to attempt the question paper in the most efficient and effective way which can maximize the chances of selection in the UPPCS Prelims Exam.

The best suggested way is that in the first reading, answer the questions in which you are confident and leave and mark those questions which are not clear to you. In the second reading, read the marked questions carefully and try to eliminate the options based on your background knowledge of the topic.  Do not answer those questions which are not known to you at all as there is a negative marking for each wrong answer and clueless guess work will not work.

The changed pattern of UPPCS Prelims Exam and introduction of negative marking will usher this exam in the new era of objectivity and the victory of only concrete knowledge.

All the best!
