Feb 3, 2015 15:59 IST

Engineering aspirants of Himachal Pradesh won’t have to appear for JEE for getting into private colleges. A separate entrance test will be conducted will be conducted by Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU) for admissions into private engineering colleges.

While the authority is quite determined for this initiative, it has been highly condemned by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M). The party has discouraged the government’s decision to conduct a separate entrance test for admission into private engineering colleges. The CPI-M State Secretariat member Tikender Panwar has said that the government has acted under pressure from the private engineering colleges which want an easy access to the market of students, who do not get through the all-India test.

The current education structure of HPTU is restricted to engineering courses with total 34 colleges, out of which 17 are private.

    Important Points

    • HPTU to conduct separate entrance exam; different from JEE
